Home Teeth Bleaching KitsThe simplest professional teeth whitening method is in your own home! It’s easy to find tooth bleaching kits and trays online. Many merchants will make a custom tray for you, too. The way it works is they send you some molds, which you bite into. Then you mail the molds back to the company and they’ll create custom whitening trays for you.
This method of teeth whitening uses a peroxide gel, commonly 15% Carbamide Peroxide. This gel breaks down stains deep in the “honeycomb” of the teeth, reaching the stains that most whitening strips and toothpastes can’t reach.
While this procedure is relatively easy, if you have sensitive teeth and/or gums, this may cause some mild discomfort, but not any more discomfort than if you went for an in office procedure.
In Office Professional Teeth WhiteningBesides whitening your teeth at home, you can always go to where the process was started, the dentist’s office. Today the options are far more plentiful than the basic bleaching procedures that started this industry. The major professional procedures that exist in office are Zoom bleaching and argon laser tooth whitening.
Zoom Whitening is probably the newest in office professional procedure available. Similar to other whitening procedures, a peroxide gel is applied to the teeth. A special lamp then activates the gel, which whitens your teeth faster than traditional teeth bleaching. This procedure is slightly less expensive than laser whitening. It costs about $500 to $1000 US based on location, ingredients, etc.
Laser Whitening is the strongest tooth whitening procedure available. It is relatively new and fairly simple to perform. A peroxide gel is applied to the teeth, similar to a normal tray bleaching procedure. Generally an argon laser is shown on the gel, which activates the bleaching action. Oxygen is released from the gel, which bonds to and removes the stains from deep within your teeth. The most prohibitive part of this procedure is the cost, which can range from $750 to $1250.
As you can easily see, there are many different options available to whitening your teeth. You must consider the convenience, cost, and results of the procedures before you decide. But whatever professional method you do choose, you’ll still have whiter teeth, it just may take you longer to get there!
