County's pilot Medicaid dental program draws criticism

While experts decry dental care for poor kids throughout the state, Medicaid has run a pilot program in Miami-Dade County for the past five years that continues to be hotly debated.

A study by Burton L. Edelstein, a professor of dental medicine at Columbia University, found the number of Miami-Dade dentists doing Medicaid work has decreased by two-thirds while the number of Medicaid children handled by each dentist tripled -- to 1,196.
