Belt-tightening could be in order for consumers (The Press-Enterprise)
Joi Freemont, a dentist in suburban Atlanta, doesn't have to look farther than her appointment book to tell that people are worried about money. When patients who used to get their teeth whitened all the time "now want to think about it a bit," she said. Braces?

1945 Human Experiment Predicts Current Fluoride Ill Effects

In 1945 dentists set out to prove that adding fluoride chemicals into public water supplies safely prevented children's tooth decay. The studies failed; but early fluoridationists ignored this inconvenient truth and forged ahead.

Now with 2/3 of public water supplies fluoridated, Americans are fluoride overdosed and suffer from fluoride's toxic effects as cavity rates climb.

Orthodontists and Invisalign Take a Bite Out of Your Bank Account

Now to the price: two years of braces cost $6,700 for each kid. The first time I heard the price I almost passed out from the force of the air entering my lungs in an enormous gasp. The second time I was steadier, but the voice in my head screaming, "What the f---?" did not stop for days. My insurance only paid $2,000 per kid. At the risk of sounding incredibly old, do you know how much I paid for my first car? Nine hundred dollars. My current car is only worth half of the cost of one set of braces. The cost is explained as orthodontists needing to pay for "a lot of specialized, expensive equipment and to pay their staff and their rent. The Orthodontists need to pay for all of their materials and the operation of their sterilizers. Then there is the cost of malpractice insurance. Most of an orthodontist's fee goes to paying their fixed cost." If they just added in a sentence here about also paying for their three homes and the yacht, I'd feel less violated. My kids' orthodontist takes almost every Friday off to go sailing, or so I've heard. Nice work if you can get it. We take out a home equity loan and get the braces.

US Rules Teeth-Whitening Chemical From China Dumped On US Market (Nasdaq)
WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The U.S. Commerce Department said Tuesday it has determined that a chemical found in teeth-whitening products has been unfairly dumped on the U.S. market.

Dentist shortage in NHS (England) hurting millions of patients

An acute shortage of dentists in the NHS is hurting millions of patients many of whom have not visited their dentists in the last two years, according to a new survey by Citizens Advice.

Top 5 Signs That It's Time To See The Dentist

A trip to the dentist probably doesn't top your fun things to do list but ignoring the top signs of tooth trouble can cost you.

Another Dentist Opposed to Fluoridation

Let's take the example of Kentucky, the only state that has 100 percent fluoridation in municipal water supplies (for which the ADA gave them an award in 2003). Kentucky also has the highest rate of people with full dentures - 42 percent. How has fluoridated water helped the people of Kentucky?
