Cavities on the increase for kids

Too many little kids with decaying teeth and cavities is a major concern for most dentists, says Dr.

"I've been practising for 40 years and it's worse now than ever," he says. "In some cases, when babies cry at night and wake up the fathers, the mothers get beaten. On three occasions, when I have said that a child needs treatment, the husband has reacted by blaming the wife for being a bad mother, swearing at her and hitting her, right there in the office. These are the kinds of mothers who protect themselves and their children by putting honey, sugar or, in some cases, in desperation, alcohol in the bottle to pacify the child."
