Patients skipping the chair for whitening procedures

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

Professional teeth whitening is no longer needed to be administered by a “professional” (dentist). While it’s good to consult with a dentist before performing any teeth whitening procedure, in home kits are slashing costs.

What would typically cost hundreds of dollars in-office is now about $100 in-home.

Certainly consumers don’t mind saving money and avoid a trip to an office. Typically the user makes sample molds of their teeth, and returns them. They are then shipped custom trays to use when applying the whitening gel.

Bright smiles are definitely in now, thanks to these developments!

Who didn’t see this coming - teeth whiteners are being over-used

Monday, August 15th, 2005

This is no surprise to dentists everywhere. And a couple “told ya so’s” are being said as well.

ABC News reported that consumers are causing irreversible damage to their pearly whites by essentially abusing over the counter whitener products.

Maybe if we were all Hollywood actors, then we wouldn’t need these procedures. They’re all born with never-fading white teeth, right?

What do Gillette and Procter & Gamble have to do with teeth whitening?

Saturday, August 13th, 2005

Good news for consumers….

Procter & Gamble has been in talks to buy Gillette for some time now; that’s old news.

But the problem that regulators in Europe have is Procter & Gamble owns Crest products, while Gillette owns the Rembrandt Oral-B line. Combining the two would simply be too monopolistic and stifle innovation for consumers.

Hence, Gillette is attempting to spin off Rembrandt to ease concerns.
