Can Allergies to Tooth Whitening products be a problem?

By Rebecca Blain

If you are prone to any allergic reactions to substances, you need to be aware of whether or not you may have allergies to tooth whitening products before you begin use. As these products are directly inserted into the mouth, it is very important that you are certain that you will not have a reaction before use, as the chemicals and components found within the product can easily get into your blood stream.

However, if you are uncertain of whether you suffer from allergies to tooth whitening products after you have begun use, it is important that you know whether it is an actual allergy or just the standard side effects of tooth whiteners. If you are feeling discomfort, such as a dull ache felt from sensitive gums and teeth, you are most likely just suffering from the standard effects of the whiteners. As these products use harsh and abrasive chemicals, it is quite likely that this is the culprit.

However, if you have hives, open sores, or red, swollen areas of the mouth, allergies to tooth whitening products is a real likelihood. If you suspect that you are having an allergic reaction to the whitening product, you need to contact a doctor immediately, as a severe reaction can be life threatening. If you are uncertain that it isn't just a side effect, do not take any risks and arrange to see a doctor.

It is very important that you make certain that you take the time to research all of the chemicals and compounds within the whiteners before you begin use. If you are still uncertain, you may be able to make homemade tooth whiteners that are safe for you at low costs. If you are worried about an allergic reaction, this may be the best solution that is currently open to you at the moment.
